Goodmorning Vietnam in Berlin Mitte: Vietnamese Food Delight

I might have to start feeling bad about so many food blogs about Asian food. So, okay, I do really like Asian food in all its different shapes and sizes. I will promise we will start reviewing some non-Asian food locations very soon. But until that day comes, I will still need to write a little story about a Vietnamese restaurant in Berlin Mitte, almost on the Rosa Luxemburg Platz, on the Alte Schönhauser Straße. Only a few feet away from the renowned Asian restaurant Monsieur Wuong. But since the latter has been the ‘victim’ of a hype in the last year, it is almost impossible to get a table at this Asian location. However, Goodmorning Vietnam is the place to be when you’re looking for a bit of atmosphere and great Vietnamese food.

Eat good Vietnamese Food

I must have been at Goodmorning Vietnam for at least three times and I have had a completely different flavour experience each time. The first evening, it was still summer and me and my friend sat outside in the warm summer evening on one of the big benches while ordering cocktails galore. As a main dish I ordered a Pho soup (with glass noodles, fresh vegetables, koriander and beef) and she had a creamy classical rice dish with a spicy curry-esque sauce. And with a crème caramel as dessert, we were both two happy bunnies. My soup was large, nicely flavoured and the beef was good quality meat. The supplementary cocktails were refreshing and not lacking in alcohol.

But I especially want to discuss my most recent visit, which was only a couple of days ago. As I am a big fan of spring rolls, I always like ordering them as an appetizer. But at Goodmorning Vietnam, you can order a main dish of spring rolls. Which gets you  six large and fresh spring rolls, two of each filling: omelette, shrimp and chicken (including spring rolls, salad, fresh koriander and a great satay dip). I can only reccomend this great dish – it is absolutely fabulous. Also perfect for sharing.

The restaurant itself is a looker. With cosy red walls, Asian art-déco and mahogany coloured tables and chairs, you will feel right at home in this eating establishment. It would be my perfect tip for a night out with some friends, for a light-hearted uncomplicated Asian meal in atmospheric surroundings.

What makes this restaurant fabulous:

  • The atmosphere. It is pretty, warm and welcoming.
  • The food. The menu is not especially large, but you get great quality food in return. If you like Vietnamese food, this is the place to be.
  • The staff – all authentic Vietnamese and they are as friendly as they come.

What makes this restaurant less fabulous:

  • It is not budget restaurant, but it is affordable.
  • It can be a quite busy on weekends or Thursday/ Friday nights. Since the restaurant is not that big, you might be forced to wait for a bit.
